I will be having an exhibition of my paintings of the Parque Natural de Cabo De Gata in the 4 star Hotel Cala Grande in Las Negras from the 16th December until the 16th January. On exhibit will be about 15 new watercolours and 10 little oil canvases.
The Hotel has a bright conference room opposite the lounge and bar where my paintings will be hung.

Acera del Darro

This coming week thirty watercolours of Granada by me, which have recently been framed, will be on display and for sale at the Galeria de Arte Van Gogh in the city. The gallery is located along the Carrera del Genil opposite El Corte Inglés. They can be viewed there until after Christmas.

El Molino

This is my first painting for over a month and the first since we moved to the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata in Almeria. There are quite a few of these lovely old windmills in the Natural Park. Some of them have been converted into dwellings which I find a bit too twee and some have fallen into ruin. I particularly like this one just outside San Jose which looks over the bay of Los Genoveses because it stands out so well against the backdrop of mountains and it has been carefully restored to its original state.
The image size of this watercolour is 35cm x 25cm and it is also available as a print.

Fishing boats at Las Negras - Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata

I have been so busy packing and preoccupied with moving house that I have not lifted a paintbrush for two weeks. At the end of the month we are going to our new home in the parque Natural de Cabo de Gata in Almeria and I am sure I will soon be inspired to start working again. Once settled in I hope to be tutoring painting holidays and escorting nature walks. More about this later but please let me know if you are interested and would like more information in due course.

La Isleta del Moro

Boats at La Isleta

We have made several visits recently to the Parque Natural de Cabo de Gata, Almeria as we hope to move there shortly. I have started to paint a few coastal scenes of the area so that I will have some work to show when we move. These I have been painting in oils which I think is a suitable medium with which to capture the strong Mediterranean light and colours. I have enjoyed woirking on these after all the watercolours I have painted of Granada and drawing boats comes naturally to me after all those years painting harbours and creeks in Cornwall.

New Directions

After a winter of concentrating on painting watercolours of Granada I feel I need a change. I will continue to paint Granada as people seem to like these images and I think watercolour is the best medium for this but I also want to paint something different.

Nude in Pastel

Firstly I have started a series of figure studies in pastel. These nudes have received critical acclaim and I have posted them on a special blog www.paintingsofnudes.wordpress.com as well as international on-line galleries.

El Gallo - The Cockerell

Secondly I want to do a few oil paintings of bright subjects. First up is El Gallo, my cockerell, but I am interested in depicting the glorious colours of spring in the countryside around me. I will post these paintings on www.margaretmerrypaintings.wordpress.com as I do them.

This Sunday, 10th April, there is an arts and crafts fair at the Hotel Carlos Astorga at Salinas, 1100 – 1500. I will be there with copies of my books for sale and some special offers on prints. If you are in the area please call in.
To get to the hotel turn off the A92 onto the A333 to Iznahar. It is signposted on the left shortly after the turning to the Hotel Bobadilla on your right.

Alhambra from San Nicolas

This a watercolour of the Alhambra from San Nicolas painted in March 2011. It is the first in a range of smaller images of Granada which I will reproduce as more ecomomical prints which will be easier for tourists to carry on travel.

The image size is 250mm x 180mm.

The original is for sale for 150 euros but limited edition signed prints on Arches Aquarelle paper are available for only 20 euros.

I think pastel is a lovely medium for portraiture. Here are some examples. I painted the nude this week. I painted he portrait of the little Spanish girl, Maria, because I wanted to paint a young girl with dark hair and big brown eyes typical of Andalucia. As you can see, my granddaughters, whom I painted when they visited last Spring, have blue eyes.

Exhibition Update

A street in Sacromonte, Granada

Although my paintings have gone to the Gallery del Arte Van Gogh in Granada for the exhibition they will not be displayed until the 12th March. This because of the time it has taken to do the amount of work required and the framing. I am pleased that 8 original paintings have been presold before they have been displayed and framed so I am hoping the exhibition will be a success.
